The MediaGuardian Innovation Awards
The first ever MediaGuardian Innovation Awards took place at IndigO2 in London on
6 March, and the cream of the UK’s media talent assembled to celebrate with the
winners and commiserate with the runners-up. Hosts Hardeep Singh Kohli and Miquita
Oliver handed out the gongs while guests enjoyed entertainment from up and coming
acts Pete & the Pirates, Basquiat Strings, dan le sac Vs. Scroobius Pip and Theoretical
Girl. After the Awards BBC 6Music DJ Chris Hawkins kept the party spirit alive til
the early hours.
The Megas were supported by our partners at the BBC and Royal Mail and we were delighted
that Erik Huggers and Antony Miller were able to assist in handing out the intricate
trophies. You can view the winners and runners up in each category opposite.
It was gratifying that even in their first year, the Megas attracted entries which
represented the very best of media talent in the UK. Our judging panel had a tough
time coming up with the shortlist and there was even more debate about the eventual
winners. The Megas will launch for 2008 later this year, so if you’re creating work
which truly represents the future of media keep checking this site for details of
how to enter.
The winners
Three entries reached the shortlist in each category. The winners were announced on March 6 at the Indigo2, at the O2 Arena.
The judging process
The judging for the Megas took place in December at Shoreditch House, London. Watch
the video below to see what the judges made of the entries and what they hope the
Megas will achieve.
